Bishops' Quill Nominee Essays

Each of the nominees was asked to submit an essay based on a passage from The Gospel According to John. In this passage Jesus prays for his disciples. As indicated in the diocesan profile, “We are looking for someone who…is able to embody a spirit of unity and invite us to join her or him as one Body in Christ, one Diocese of Maryland, bringing healing and reconciliation skills to this endeavor.” With this in mind, the nominees reflected upon the following passage:

“I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world. Holy Father! Keep them safe by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one, just as you and I are one.” --John 17:11

Note: The responses were limited to two-pages, double-spaced. The essays have been reformatted for the Web site.
