RESOLVED, that the Diocese of Maryland, meeting in Convention, May 6-7, 2005 adopt as a vision of ministry for the Diocese, a policy which supports youth membership on parish Vestries, Advisory Boards and the Cathedral Chapter, and to that end encourages those parishes and missions that have not already done so to revise their by-laws to provide that youth who are communicants in good standing and are at least 16 years of age be eligible to serve on their vestries or advisory boards.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Convention encourages each parish and mission in the Diocese to provide for Youth representation on their Vestry or Mission Advisory Board.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that each parish and mission within the diocese submit with its 2005 parochial report a copy of its by-laws so that the diocese’s youth missioner can report the number of parishes and missions whose by-laws provide that youths, who are communicants in good standing and are at least 16 years of age are eligible to serve on their vestries or advisory boards.
The purpose of this resolution is to place The Diocese of Maryland in compliance with the 2020 commission rules outlined by the General Convention of the Episcopal Church of the United States in 2000 in Denver, Colorado.
