Resolution 2004-1

Title: Constitution, Art. 2 (Filing of Names of Delegates to Convention)

Submitted by: The Rev. Canon Mary D. Glasspool

RESOLVED: That the fifth sentence of the second paragraph of Article 2 of the Constitution, which presently provides that names of delegates and alternates be filed six months prior to Convention, shall be amended to read as follows:

“The names of all delegates and alternates shall be filed with the Secretary of the Convention not later than three months prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Convention…”

EXPLANATION

Often, parishes elect their delegates and alternates at a regularly scheduled vestry meetings. In many cases the date when vestries elect such delegates is scheduled months after the constitutional six-month deadline. Therefore, many parishes can not meet the certification deadline. This amended deadline would allow all parishes to certify their delegates and alternates in time to meet the Constitutional deadline.

[NOTE: As a constitutional amendment, this resolution needs to be approved at two consecutive conventions, 2004 being the second.]
