An Apology for Slavery

RESOLVED, that the 223rd Convention of the Diocese of Maryland, meeting May 4-5, 2007, confesses to God and to one another its complicity in its perpetuation of the sin of racism, and apologizes for the Anglican Church in Colonial Maryland and of the Episcopal Church in the State of Maryland for their role in the slavery of African-Americans and in the subsequent racial injustice; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the Task Force is asked to develop recommendations for the next step after this apology; that is, to find concrete steps the Diocese can take to repair the relations between races and to assist parishes as they continue this work.
