Wondering what to do with your "stimulus check?"
Give it for Good

Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation invite all Episcopalians to use their stimulus checks to support the Millennium Development Goals. Give it all, give a tenth, or give the "MDG 0.7%" in response to our recognition of the disparity between rich and the poor countries.  In the Diocese of Maryland we support the MDGs by giving 0.7% of the Diocesan budget to development work in desperately poor areas of the world.  We invite you to give your "stimulus check" or a portion of it to your parish marked for Global Mission.  Then each parish will send a check or several checks to the Diocese also marked for Global Mission.  Added to the Diocese's 0.7%, the stimulus contributions will enable us collectively to make our contribution to sustainable development reach more people in more places.

For additional information of E4GR's "Give It 4 Good" campaign, check our their Web site.  To learn where the Diocese of Maryland is sending dollars in 2008, check out Global Mission in the Diocese of Maryland.

If you prefer to give directly through Episcopal Relief and Development, check "My gift is in support of the Millennium Development Goals" and include the name of your parish.  Please let the Global Mission Committee know you have participated in this program.

Let's find more creative -- and Christ-centered -- uses for these "stimulus checks." Jesus says that as we compassionately care for the poorest of the poor, we care for him (Matthew 25:31-46). This time, let's choose compassion over consumption.

Province III Synod-- Church Reorganized

Province III Synod-- Church Reorganized; Ministry to Military

The people of the Diocese of Maryland are invited to attend a Province III Synod on the Episcopal Church's new reorganization and to hear how to minister to our soldiers and their families.

The synod, Sunday, May 18 - Tuesday, May 20, will feature "Renewing Our Common Mission," and "On the Home Front," at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg, WVA.

The Rev. Barbara J. Seras, coordinator, said, "Ms. Antoinette 'Toni' Daniels, newly appointed director of the Partnership Center of the Episcopal Church, one of the four new areas, will discuss the church's  goal of increased mission support and resourcing for ministries in our dioceses and parishes.

Toni will be joined by John Vanderstar and the Reverend Mark Harris who are our Executive Council Representatives for Province III. Also, the Reverend Charles "Chuck" Robertson, canon to the Presiding Bishop, will be present at our annual SYNOD meeting. They will tell us who to contact at church offices to "get information, support, and resources for your special ministry. Come and ask the questions...and get the answers..."

The Rt. Rev. George P. Packard, Bishop Suffragan for Chaplaincies, will address ministry to the military, the wounded and the families. A Vietnam War veteran, Bishop Packard often visits the Middle East and works closely with his chaplains on the war fronts.

"The need is great," said Seras. "We Christians have an extraordinary opportunity to minister. Bishop Packard and his chaplains will give us concrete ways we can minister in our local parishes; about the needs of our service personnel and families, and present important data on post traumatic stress disorder, which affects so many of our returning veterans."

The deadline for registration is May 9. Hotel reservation deadline is May 9. To register and for more information, see the Province 3  Web site, or email Barbara Seras or call 443-304-2109.
