Conversations about Ordination

Sessions to take place Jan. 26 and Feb. 19

Bishop Sutton and the Commission on Ministry are holding a series of "listening sessions" about the ordination process in the Diocese of Maryland. As they are discussing certain changes in the discernment process for the diaconate and priesthood, they want to hear from others about the current process and to share ideas for possible improvement. Bishop Sutton will also share his concerns about the challenges before the whole Church regarding holy orders. All interested persons, lay or clergy, are invited to these conversations. Please join the bishop and several members of the commission at one of the following events:

7-9 p.m.

From the Editor of Maryland Church News

Changes on the Horizon

Maryland Church NewsSince making the switch from newspaper to magazine in 2005, it has become necessary to revamp Maryland Church News once again. But, rather than taking a tired newspaper and making it an exciting magazine, the job is to make Maryland Church News a leaner, more cost-effective publication, while maintaining the level of quality you have come to expect.

Even in these tight economic times the diocese recognizes the need to reach every member of the church where they live with a high-quality print publication. With fixed costs such as paper and postage on the rise, the decision was made to change the physical size of MCN from 8-1/2" X 11" to 6" X 11". The smaller size allows us to greatly reduce postage costs, and save on paper, design and production costs. Many of the editorial elements will remain - Bishop's Perspective, feature articles and news from Around the Diocese. MCN will no longer be themed each quarter.

The spring issue will be the last to feature the DateBook, the printed calendar of events. Instead the Communications Office is switching to an upgraded online calendar format with more features and greater flexibility for posting your events. Look for submission information in the spring MCN issue and future Parish E-Mailings. Advertising is still available in MCN. New ad sizes and rates can found on the updated Rate Card, along with future publication deadlines.

The deadline for submitting articles and calendar items is Jan. 21. Because of recent weather closures, that deadline is extended to Jan. 28.

The winter MCN issue, Slavery in our Diocese, is now online.

Any questions about the recent changes, please contact Sharon Tillman.
